Thanks for that. There appear to be maps for torque reduction by reduced throttle angle, as well as setpoints to determine when these are used. I really need to see a factory binary at this point.

So I got my spare ebay ecu the other day. Wanted to clone my current ecu so as not to worry about downtime in the event of a problem. Opened it, located the 93C86 SOIC-8 eeprom (bottom of the board) and after cleaning the protective layer off, read it.

Did the same for mine, but wrote my eeprom to the ebay ecu, and started the truck up

Is the PCM using 7052, 7055, 7058 or other CPU(s) and how many? (Some of the S-Types are twin cpu.)

Hi-definition pic may help

Stock tunes are (or were) on IDS etc disk(s).

Single 7058. I have to find the cable for my digital camera, then I'll snap some pics. The stock files on the IDS discs are need to be converted to a standard binary before they're of any use to me

Sounds like what Jag call the PanPAG PCM.

The earlier S-Types (about 2002.5MY-2004?) use twin 7055s and have a Denso part # on the PCM label along the lines of MB079700-9123 (last 4 digits vary).

RR ones may be along the lines of MB279700-9240 I think - what's yours?

PCB white silkscreen may be 279721-9161 - vaguely right?

If you figure a way to use the IDS file format then you can also use IDS to reflash the PCM. And so could anyone else with a cheap Mongoose clone.

Yes, that's it, PanPAG!

I've been wracking my brain the last two days trying to remember the name...

Default My interest

The lack of an update is not due to a lack of interest. I'm currently experiencing transmission issues. Hard up/downshifts into and out of 5th (and occasionally reverse). Valvebody is fully reman with new solenoids, Sonnax accumulators and seals (bridge and mechatronic), but the issue persisted. I pulled the trans. It's at Eriksson Industries getting reman'd.

At least it wasn't that bad. The Range is a big machine. Didn't even have to remove the exhaust! Took about 3hrs to get it out

A nudge - the Denso with Renesas/Hitachi SH7058 / 55 / 52 / ... is used on cars which ARE routinely tuned such as Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru various, Mazda various, even some bikes. Also on many other cars that aren't commonly tuned LOL

Maybe romraider is a way.

ROMRaider relies on definition files. Someone had to create these files to begin with. That's where I'm at.

I have defined enough in my binary to tune it. I can read it, I can modify it, I can checksum it, I can write it.

So is it cracked? 100 percent, no. Enough to do what everyone else does? Absolutely.

I suppose the next question here are what goals and expectations do people have? When you look for a "tune" what are you trying to accomplish? What do you feel is lacking from the commercial offerings?

For myself I am looking to get a good tune for the modifications I have done. Something with sensible fueling, timing and reasonable drivability that isn't constantly on the ragged edge of destruction.

There are not many (any?) commercial offerings that are a real custom tune for cars that have extensive modifications. There seem to be one or two standard tunes out there that get repackaged and pedaled by many different installers.

Very few can articulate what the tune changes, and even fewer will stand behind their claimed gains, which gives little confidence that they are worth anything.

To bring this back:

I have read multiple posts where people have said these tend to run very rich. Can anyone enlighten me as to what constitutes "very rich"?

lol

Printout is the same dyno run as this one;

Been awhile since I was tinkering with Ecus and tuning.. But 11.5:1 is pretty rich.
