Default Annoying vertical ads

Anyone else find the ads that show up right away when you click on a thread, taking up a full half page, annoying? These new ads take up a lot of screen real estate for no good reason and I need to scroll down for it to disappear. On both sides of the ad is blank unused space. Please make them go away.

Are they advertisements from forum sponsors? If so, remember this is a completely free forum supported by sponsors.

If not they will be a feature of your browser and browsing history picking up on target words to bring you 'relevant' adverts.

Many of us use AdBlocker and PopUp blockers to prevent this.

You bought it?

It should be available as a free addon.

Default Adblock Plus

Hi chaps,

May I chime in ... to advise users of Adblock Plus as an addon to Mozilla Firefox (used for years and currently at Ver 27.0.1) that the Adblock policy has changed since Version 2 (currently 2.5.1) to enable by default what they call "limited and responsible" ads through. The theory is that this will promote responsible and sensible, non-intrusive, best practice in advertisers ... sadly, they seem to believe it ... but the reality for many users has been predictable.

This loophole is becoming so abused by advertisers intruding on my Forum and eBay viewing, that I have seriously considered chucking the lot. In desperation, I set out looking for a solution ... not Forum, where the sponsors "vertical ads" to the right of the view window are designed to complement rather than obliterate the main view window, and whose content and Forum support we need ... nor even eBay, where they thrive on ads - cars, boats, your wife and children (lol)... but with Mozilla (Firefox), Adblock and other active developers ... I believe that a solution for the majority of ads and pop-ups, is now at hand.

This comes in the form of an "addon to an Addon" and not an alternative to Adblock Plus, which must already be installed onto Firefox. Even the developers of the original Adblock and Adblock Plus have acknowledged the improvements. It comes in the form of an additional "add-on" called Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon 0.9.1. I have no affiliation with either product, although I hail from a long and now extinct career in program development. The combination is still not perfect ... but I am impressed with the performance of both products on the Firefox platform. I cannot speak for its need or efficacy on other browsers.
I trust this helps others.
Best wishes,
Ken
