Discussions of navigation disc copying
In the S-Type section there's an ongoing discussion of copying navigation discs. Heck, a forum staff member has contributed to it.
Copying the NAVTEQ disc is a copyright violation. It is against the law. This makes the forum an knowing accessory to the crime. You've heard of parents getting hit with a suit by Sony for their children copying/downloading songs. The fines for this a HUGE. NAVTEQ could theoretically sue under the same law that yields an $80,000 fine per instance.
I guess I don't see why the forum management is willing to promote an illegal act.

Thanks Jim. I appreciate your attention both to this and also just how hard it is tightrope walk this issue.
Candidly, I pay for all my software in the theory that if I don't and others don't, soon there will be none. I actually don't really care about some folks copying. My concern was that this was so out in the open as to get the attention of NAVTEQ.
Thanks again.
