Default forum icons on different browsers

I noticed that starting a few weeks ago, the forums look different on Firefox compared to Chrome and Safari.

On chrome and safari, I see green and red jaguar leaper icons indicating which forums have new posts.

On firefox, I see a white or yellow envelope with a wand instead of a leaper.

Any idea why the site renders differently?

Hi, clear your cache and reload. FF will then have the colours.

I had the same issue when we were testing the new icons. Displayed in IE9 but not in FF.

FF 15.0.1 is my default browser. Clearing the cache alone didn't do it but running CCleaner fixed the issue.

Thanks. Clearing the cache on firefox seems to have worked.

Personally, not a fan of the new icons, but oh well...

I usually use IE but it has been playing up for me recently, I had been hoodwinked into downloading Chrome so gave that a try, after a few days Chrome and I were not bonding so I switched to FF.
The point to all this is that I had a different experience with the new icons with each one IE being the worst (no icons) and FF being the best. Apart from IE the other two browsers were fresh and new with no history.

They are very hard to interpret! Red/orange would seem a more natural choice for "Hot thread" than blue. The icons could be reversed simply enough.

It's particularly difficult to determine which threads one's posted in already. Then there are icons which are not referenced in the legend; e.g. "Am I right or wrong" and "My poor, poor XKR" in the list below. (Additional research indicates that these are "You have posted in this thread" and the icons just haven't been updated yet):

+1

They are at best non-intuitive. The purpose of such graphics ought to be to convey as much information as possible.

There is a well known tenet applicable to web design as espoused by a famous usability expert: "don't make me think".

The concepts being conveyed are relatively simple, it ought to be able to use icons that are crystal clear as to their meaning without resorting to a legend.

The present design fails to do that.

In addition, the presentation of a "locked" icon to unregistered users is not welcoming to new readers. It is a given to any reader that has been on a forum more that a couple of times that registration is going to be required to post or reply. It smacks of a desperation.
