Default Something being done to the forums....

Just curious if something was being done to the forums because its been very slow for me lately. It either doesnt let me get to the website or takes a long time to load. Sometimes I have to refresh quite a few times just to see the site. Just wondering if something was being done causing it or if I was alone and its not something anyone else has been experiencing?? The only thing I have different is I upgraded to IE 9 but it was running fine the first few weeks of running it so I dont think its IE9.

Thanks guys for letting me know I wasnt the only one. I was thinking it might of been something with IE9. Glad its not cause I'm kinda digging IE9. Figured it might be the forums when I tried it on my phone a little bit ago and seemed to do the same thing on it also then tried my laptop and also the same.

Hi, yup it has been the same for me, especially last night.

I would hazzard a guess that there has been a software change. If you scroll all the way to the bottom you will see a new logo IB Automotive, that I don't remember seeing previously.

If I hear anything concrete, I'll confirm.

Just googled and found out the boards are owned by Internet Brands which is the IB. Were the boards always owned by them?? Their site has jaguarforums listed in its list of automotive forums. They actually have quite a bit of auto forums listed. A few I've been members of.

Internet Brands owns the Vbulletin forum software that the site uses.

They also own content sites for advertising. If you click the "advertising" link at the bottom, you will see that in the automotive sector they own or are affiliated with the following sites:

And right now, the dns for jaguarforums.com looks um.... a tad strange. It is definitely not optimal.

It was probably me. I was watching a couple movie streams and overloaded the world wide web. Sorry.

site speed issues, we're well aware. We suffered a prolonged, ongoing DDOS attack beginning last monday, and still becoming more intense as of last night. We've had several instances this week where every single website internet brands owns was offline

We have been doing all that we can, but it's difficult to stay ahead of them, we're forced to be reactionary rather than proactive. Hopefully it ends soon.

Lol....I'd love to be able to tell you what DDOS is BUT.....I have no clue!!
Just had this passed on to me from the tech guys and thought I'd let you all know.

Just all seems a bit strange to me at the moment, or maybe I'm just overly suspicious, but we seem to be targeted IMO.
There are negative posts by banned members on other sites about jaguarforums.com / an influx of members with little / no ettiquette and a disregard for the rules, then this?

We are ever vigilant and will stamp this out and hopefully things will get back to normal and even improve.

Thanks for your understanding

DDOS = distributed denial of service

It consists of using multiple computers making requests to swamp a server.

In professional circles, it is carried out using hired fleets of zombie computers.

It is one of the risks of running a forum.

When a disgruntled banned member does it, it is normally a straight DOS without the distributed part since that usually involves payment of money.

Surviving a DDOS consists of deploying enough resources to survive what is being thrown at the server(s).

If it is widespread across Internet Brands properties, then it is likely a pro job.

One of the weaknesses is that Internet Brands is doing DNS inhouse, has deployed only two dns servers, both on the west coast, and the zone is inconsistent. An administrator is welcome to ask for details by PM.
