Default What just changed with thumbnails and hyperlinks?

So I go back and review my posts and suddenly none of my thumbnail links to larger images work as they have in the past.

Posts that were perfectly fine for months no longer work.

My normal procedure is to inset a thumb like so

Then hyperlink it to a larger image
Which I have done here... Note that when you click on the thumb, you no longer get the hyperlink, but a small popup box instead....

Any idea what has changed and when it will get fixed?

Many thanks
Vince

Vince as far as I am aware the changes with thumbs were made months ago.

From your Flickr account, try inserting an image at the size you want to see directly into the body of a post, using the Mountain Icon and the http blah blah link provided by Flickr.

The pic below was a random pic inserted directly into the body of the post by simply copy/paste.

Maybe you could try the same with your pics. Right click/copy/paste.

Sorry to disagree boss, I know you are trying... Thumbs worked fine as of two Saturdays ago, and in fact still work correctly from the signature section.

Look at my post above, the thumb was inserted, then hyper-linked.

If you click on the thumb in my signature, this is what they all did only a week ago, so I remain skeptical.

Simple hyperlinks via text to bigger flickr images still work. But not from a thumb image any more.

Test- Thumb, no Hyper-link

Test- Thumb, with Hyper-link to Bigger

Something has changed, as the posting area was working exactly like the sig area.

I just shared images last week this way as a matter of fact

Hmmm.
I've just copy/pasted this one directly from my photobucket account, by using the IMG code pasted directly into the body of the post.

I did not use the thumbnail option.

Evidently, the thumbnail does not expand.

My advice, use the full size IMG code link, and allow the forum software to resize the pic if required.

(PS this is/was my 1955 Landrover, a little modded).

The thumbnails in your trunk net thread don't work now either Vince.

Richard, I understand what you are saying, but if you add half a dozen pics to a post it will get unwieldy quickly.

Exactly, yet they were working a week ago... Ask any viewer of that post, and they "saw" the full sized images the thumbs linked to. Now that process is dead.

The thumbnail process prevents massive load times for any image intense threads.

Flickr gives me the thumbnail, and I insert it via the "insert Image" function. I then highlight the inserted thumb, and hyperlink it to a bigger version on flickr.

Using an off site image, and hyper-linking to yet another off site image take a dramatic load off your server and services, and the process let me control the size and quality of the remote image. If I want to "thumb and link" to a 4meg photo, so be it.... Jaguarforums did not have to suffer (and I retain legal control of my images).
I pay for flickr and its services for just that reason.

As I also pointed out, the 140mph thumb in my signature still works correctly, showing the problem is somewhere in the "posting" section of your board.

Vince

I note that "http://apicdn.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&key" no longer shows on the failing thumbs, but does on the working sig

Vince, your hyperlinks are working fine for me. No problems. They open in new tabs with full sized images. Nice pics, BTW.

*edit: your hyperlinks in the trunk net thread work for me too. Are we going to have to have an Apple vs PC argument here?

Lol,
Nope, I suspect you need to flush your cache on your browser. Your probably drawing off an old page.
The problem is the same on Firefox, IE, and my android tablet.

Weird, but seriously, it still works after dumping the cache and trying different browsers (Safari, Firefox, iPad). Screenshot 134 is what I see, screenshot 135 is the tab that opens when I click the hyperlinked image (not the text you also included, but the image itself).

Here's a new hyperlinked image to test (it works for me in preview):

(bonus points if you can guess what kind of car it is!)

Translator's thumbnail hyperlink of the landrover works for me as well. Takes me directly to his bitbucket page.

Nope, not feeling the love...
Four different browsers, three different platforms, and all show the same problem...

MD, Any chance you are checking from work? Our intelligent firewalls cache pages as well. I've had to call and have them clear those buffers as well.

I'm at home. I just rebooted mac in a Windows 7 drive partition (hasn't been used for a while).
1) Launched Firefox, but did not log in to jagforums.
2) Hyperlinks were not active. Clicking thumbnail opened thumbnail only.
3) Logged in.
4) Hyperlinks were active. Clicking thumbnails opened full-sized pic in new tab in two of your examples. This worked in both Jag37 and default skins.
5) Logged back out--hyperlinks no longer active.

Ok, now I'm frustrated that I can't reproduce your problem, so I log off my wifi (in case my modem is somehow caching) open a personal hotspot on my 4G phone, open IE for the first time ever and try entirely different hyperlink examples than previous, and everything still works just as above. I can't get it to NOT work.

I'm sorry man, I'm stumped.

OK MD I understand why the links are inactive when logged out, the image is stored on JF servers and is inaccessible to visitors.

But even if I copy your expanding Jag with mountain screen shot or type the code manually I still only get a thumbnail.

Weird that it expands in your post, but not in mine.

Anyhow the question has been asked.

Is it still messing up? Someone try the hyperlinks on this test site and let me know what happens:

<link disabled>

If these hyperlinks work for you, check your image resizer settings under 'options' in your UserCP. Set it to "open in new window."

If they don't work for you, the problem may have to do with how your browsers are interacting with the viglink referrer that jaguar forums uses. Try varying your security settings to experiment.

Looks like that works, we'll see what he others say when they get a chance to try it.
