Why so slow?
I know this question has been asked here before, but why are the forums still so very, very, painfully slow to load? I feel like I am on a dial up connection again, LOL!
Yuo may need to try different browsers .
In my case, I am using IE9 but sometimes I have to close and re open the tabs to get the page to load properly otherwise it takes ages for notebook to load the pages and you wanna click twice on and off

I think one of the problems is the number of ads etc that have to load each time.
It would be nice to have the Forum header be static so that when you are going from thread to thread it wouldn't have to reload. Don't know if that's possible or not.

Exactly. I might be new to this forum, but Iv've belonged to 3 others for a while and this is by far the slowest to load a new thread.

Ahh, but we are an 'Eco friendly' forum and only use the very latest renewable source, wood burning, steam powered servers.
Someone chuck in another log.
(we are aware of the problem, please stick with us, even though as forum users we can't do anything about it).

The problem is usually one of:
- badly written or inappropriate use of javascript
- inclusion of page elements from busy third party servers, especially "social media" sites
A page can only be as fast as its slowest element.
BTW, all of those social media links are busily setting cookies to track your movements between sites in addition to the usual analytics and ad server cookies.

Just tried googlechrome and its significantly faster!
Its all down to a combo of the browser you use and the ads on site, unfortunateky these are what helps to pay for the sites upkeep and mean that we use the site for free.
Anyone with any issues, please try using a different browser and see how you get on.

There was one particular European ad network service that was notoriously bad for slowing sites to a crawl.
But the ones used by IB are not. Those ad networks are well financed and do not have the same behaviour.
It is the inclusion of all those twitfacespace icons, or bad javascript.
For example, the thread listing page(index page) for this subforum shows 17 javascript segments.
I run with javascript disabled by default, and the site is not slow ... for me.
The site also functions better without javascript. Except for the new album feature which is completely farked by the inapproriate usage of javascript and ajax.

Thanks for starting this thread and suggesting Google Chrome. I was also seeing slow page loading. Just changed browser from IE8 to Google Chrome and boy, what a difference in speed. Pages are almost instant now (for me anyway)
Interesting thread, and timely, too! Today the site was slower than usual. I have a Mac (not my idea, my wife bought it, I hate the damn thing, but that's another story!)
I disabled Java and Java Script and it's very fast now. The site admin may not like this solution, since it stops the loading of everything except the posts, but it works for me. No banner or ads.
I'll try the same on my IPAD. I have one because we use them at work, and I do like it, but this site is a bit frustrating on it as well.

Hi All,
Google Chrome is quick as we have found out. Also found I can't add pictures or smileys using Google Chrome, it puts a link instead. Either a flaw, or I have something set up incorrectly. Anybody else tried editing signature in Google Chrome?
Google chrome for speed, IE for editing.

I would like to try disabling javascript.
How is this achieved?
Do you uninstall the program? or can you disable it for an individual site?
What effect will this have on the rest of your computing?
Have gone to google chrome, but don't like it, and not that fast.
Currently running IE9...really slow on this site only!
Had Firefox, ran well, but prefer IE functionality.
Any advise on how best to disable javascript and any ramifications would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Phil

Thank you so much Norri,I would never have found that without your assistance. The site is lightening fast for me now with Javascript disabled.I was getting really annoyed with how slow the site was becoming...was slower every time I logged on...I recommend this fix to anyone getting fed up with the lack of speed. Thanks everyonePhil
Good job norri , well I have noticed that when I install updates on my Win 7 , the notebook runs slower only times I visit and post on this forum .
I dunno if I have to restore my computer to an earlier point but it could be a fluke as well
