Thank you for sharing Reggie with us. He should make a knock-out of a wedding car. The June issue of the JEC mag has not yet made it on this side of the pond, but I am keeping my eye out for it.

Whenever the Mk. X/420G comes up, there is always the comment that it is the biggest saloon that Jaguar ever built. Just for fun, I looked up the numbers:

Mk.X/420G:
length - 202"
width - 76"
height - 54.8"
weight - 4172 lb

2011 XJL:
length - 206.6"
width - 74.6"
height - 57"
weight - 4131 lb

The 420G is still the winner on width and weight!

All I can say without spoilin the mag before it arrives is you are in for a good read on this model and car and in a lot of future magazine...

Apologies to modern jaguar owners but they dont cut the mustard for me..

Give me a classic and let me fettle, as Im off to now if the rain holds off more updates next week

SC Mike do a another size comparison with the XJ220 as the 420G was the biggest production car from Jaguar untill this beast (XJ220) knocked it off its perch

OK - I'll bite (though I did specifically say Jaguar *saloon*).

XJ220:
length - 194.1"
width - 79"
height - 45.3"
weight - 3025 lb

So except for its +3" width margin over the 420G, the XJ220 is rather a wee willie by comparison.

Im only young compared to most Jaguar owners Im not 45 yet

"finished item" I will get bored at the weekends then, back to gardening and decorating...

I like Jags where there was a small production run also ones I can afford, saying that the E wasnt cheap, I may do a thread with suggestions for a new project putting down my criteria.... Which section would I post that in ?

Thanks RegentV12

jrwb before I re-furbed these were green as was the headlining, Ive not changed it from cinnamon. I chose biscuit to get more light in the car as one of its uses is going to be a wedding car as well as other things...
I merely asked a simple question; no need to make fun of me - 420Gs, as far as I know, didn't come with green headlining, and from the photographs, your's certainly is not.
Your project, therefore, is not a restoration; rather it is a refurbishment since it is not being returned to its original condition.
Very commendable work, nevertheless.

I would just like to apologiies publicly if you took my comment the wrong way, I can assure I wasnt "making fun of you" as you say, but answering the question.
As for the trim the rear window surround and headlining was a light sage green. I still have the material.
Restoration \ Refurbishment what ever you call it, this is my first "large" project as the E-Type wasnt so involved and Im doing it to the best of ability with products available to me..
On the note of matching carpets to the bottom the chair sections, of all the suppliers I contacted none offered a cinnamon wool-cloth.

On a final not thank-you for your comments getting peoples nice comments makes it more worth while to do the job. I cant wait to get it to the shows next year.

Any comments for direction I do welcome as this is my first 420G and if there are time served owners reading Id love to here from you..

Regards where to post about a new project/idea. Here if it is an older Jaguar, but for more hits and divergent advice you could try a thread about what you have in mind over in the Off Topic section, we can always move it if it becomes too specific.

Like the idea BTW, if I keep it, my XJ40 is due for some sill repairs and front wings (if I ever get over to the NW I might be looking for a breaker in the future, or more probably break the one I am left with).

Don't know if they are still around, but there used to be a trim/restorer in Todmorden, older MGs IIRC and leather care I'll dig into my old classic car mags and see if I can come up with their name etc).

Look forward to the update.

Thanks for clearing that up - I am only sorry that you and I are not personal friends and that I live near you so that I can pop over regularly to witness the progress (and perhaps even help) personally.
Many Jaguar lovers behave as if the Mk 10/420G models are not their favourite Jags, but I have always thought the contrary, and extremely pleased that someone is taking the time to return one of them to its former splendour.

Reggie is starting to look like his magnificent, original self! Thanks for sharing the ongoing saga. Your postings, in fact, led me to wander around and find the most appropriate website: The Jaguar Mk10 & 420G Owners Symposium Lots of time wasted lurking there. Always wanted one, somehow it never happened.

I have always admired what some of us over here call "The Fat E-Type". At least ever since that afternoon in the mid-'80s, when I was startled by a Mk 10 outside some forgotten English village, running through the manual gearbox from a dead stop, hitting the red line in at least the first two gears, and maybe even the third, before it disappeared. Jaw dropping.

It's a pity newer Jags, like most brands today, don't have nice valve covers you can shine up and make the underbonnet look so smart...
