MK10 - Searching for a replacement Front Wing
Hi,
I need a right hand front wing for my 1966 MK10, I've just been told by the bodyshop that the one I found a while back is a poorly made pattern part and will be virtually impossible to fit.
I'm in France but the car is in England (Doncaster).
I'd prefer a new wing (yes I know hens teeth etc.) but a good 2nd hand one would be just as good.
If you have one and you're miles away please let me know anyway as I may be able to arrange something.
Please, please help.

Have you tried Martin Robey at Nuneaton ? Most Mk 10/420G cars are now baked bean tins and probobly several times over, I would think. Mazrtin Robey may make repair sections, but I doubt full wings, although they do them for Mark 2s, but there is no significant demand for your car model unfortunately. If you go to Mark10/420G on their website this is what comes up: -

Thanks for the suggestion but I think you're right. The major parts suppliers do mechanical parts, engines, gearboxes etc. but panels.....no! These cars are one of the rarest Jaguars but not worth enough to make panel manufactire worthwhile.
Other thing I just thought of is that all the wings of these 60s-era Jaguars were constructed from two or more pressings, and lead used to cover the weld line. If you look at this Martin Robey web page for the 420 saloon, similar in style to your Mark 10, you'll see front wings and also part wings. The price for a full wing is quite eye-watering, that for the front section less so, but still quite a lot of money. Of course these are virtually all hand-made.

If you then go and look at the wings for a Mark 2, they are half the price of the 420 wings.

There is much larger demand for Mark 2 wings, so it is probably worth Robeys making them in batches. What Martin Robey may do for you is rebuild your wings. They once did a job for me on four S-type doors that I wanted to use on a Mark 2. The took the shut face where the door lock is, off my old doors and fitted them on the S-type doors. The job was so good, you would have been pushed to see where the joins were.

I knew Martyn Roby did do S-type wings at £6k and didn't think to check for MK10/420G wings. The issue is that I bought 2 front and 2 rear NOS wings for my car but when the body shop came to fit the R/H driver's side they found it wasn't NOS rather a poor after market one and the swage lines and door shuts are way off. They could sort it but the labour would be expensive so I'm trying to find a good 2nd hand wing. I've also asked them if they can make one good wing out of the after market one and my old wing. At the moment I have a couple of leads in Europe but I thought a good place to start would be on this forum.
Thanks for your reply and info, however I've been a bit lazy and not ended the thread by saying the bodyshop have started to modify the pattern part to fit.

Glad to hear you have resolved the problem. Mark 10/420G cars are probably the least well supplied parts-wise of all the Jaguar models for body panels and fittings. The car was not hugely popular when it was in production. It was said at Jaguar that the XJ6 of 1968 was the Mark 10 with the air let out of the body !!
