Modern cars have no chassis, they are of "monocoque" construction, so the body mounts all the suspension parts, (albeit subframes are usually used). The engine and transmission is similar. Of course there is nothing to stop you designing and building your own chassis.
No, no, no. You're thinking about this all wrong. You don't take a Mark IX body and strap it to a Tesla 3. You take a Mark IX, rip out the drivetrain, and casually slip in a Tesla 3 battery pack and drive train. Granted, it might be more of a project than a weekend thing, but it sure would be something.
