Still need I.D. help
I am trying to nail down exactly what I have here. It seems that it is a 420G.
This is on the engine compartment Identification Plate.
CAR: PIF 26488BW, BODY: 4 F 45 54, ENGINE: 7F 3747-9, AUTOMATIC TRANS: 16936.
Here are a few pix, albeit poor quality but they should help:

I must be blind, I didn't see an edit button so I could add these pix to the first post.

I hope from these and the numbers, it can be fully identified.
I still wonder if am I missing a VIN Tag or are the numbers I have all there is?

The engine will be numbered. As far as I recall it was cast into the cylinder block in those days.
Here is the production by year:

If you are considering restoration, it will be hugely expensive.

This car has a similar though not identical Plate.
Your illustration has: Chassis, Engine, Body, Gearbox.
Mine has: Car, Engine, Body, Auto Trans.
From this, I must assume (bad word) that your Chassis No. must equal my Car No. which is: PIF 26488BW.
Looking at your "Production by Year attachment, first the "I" in PIF must be a "1", therefore, my 1F26488 would make it a 1967. Also if you subtract 1001 from the engine number of 3747 it equals 2746 which, in quantity would fit very nicely into the total cars produced.
Now all I have to do is figure out if the VIN on the California Registration is PIF 26488BW. I do know that on all of the sixties Ferraris I restored, the VIN on the reg. was only the four digit S/N e.g. 5425 etc.
As soon as I either find the registered owner or determine that I can sell it as a Lien Sale, that is what I will do.
Graham, thanks very much for your information.

Hi,
Is it not possible for you to trace the cars history through DMV records or send a very good photo of the car's plate to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust and see if they can help.
Just a thought.

Agreed Chassis Number / Car Number is equivalent. Some good logic applied to work out the Year.
In the UK the term 'Gearbox' is often used for both Manual and Automatic Transmission. The BW on the end on your Car Number could refer to it being fitted with Borg Warner Automatic Transmission. My 1972 XJ6 had a Chassis Number ending in BW for this reason.
