Default 1965 3.8l SType main oil seal replacement.

Need to replace the main seal from engine to transmission. Does the entire engine need to be removed or is it possible to drop the gearbox and tranny and replace it in car? Does anyone have a detailed manual or video of this task?

Sorry we talked about this a while ago and you have to have the engine out. What was discussed though is if the engine has been sat for sometime without oil it may be that the crankshaft oil seal which is made from rope has just dried out and needs to soak up the oil to expand and reseal itself. When fitting a new oil seal you do need to soak it over night in an oil bath to get it to expand.
Do you have Miss Kitty on the road now? Your Dad would be so proud of you.

She is up an running and is at 95% finished. My only stall is this leak. It is bad. I was told that Dad and his mechanic did not replace the seals. They did a complete top and bottom rebuild but did not brake apart the tranny. Which has now became a major issue as I figured that the engine had to be pulled to fix it and has killed my motivation to work on it. To get this far only to have this major of an issue happen sucks. it is like it doesn't even have a seal in it. It leaks just sitting in place.

Again this (believe it or not) is normal. It needs to be run and go through a cycle of hot oil loops so the oil can seep back into the seals and expand them. Before you start pulling the engine and gearbox, run the car for a month topping up the oil as needs and see if the leaks seal themselves. In a Jaguar you will find that the leaks will never fully go away, they were almost built into the car in the factory. It takes a lot of work to get a leak free 1960s Jaguar. In an auto ( I know Miss Kitty is manual) the oil held in the torque convertor drains back into the gearbox over filling it and the oil drains out of the speedo cable link. If you run the car there is a chance some oil will go to places it should on a manual such as the over drive and the oil level will drop so there are no more leaks.
