Default 240 engine bay plate

Hi All
I see this plate riveted on the inner wheel arch (in the engine bay)
It says nothing as it is blanc.
Any ideas what should it be?
Car is a 240 '67
Cheers
Nassos

Typically something like this. Can be country dependent.

Well it certainly was upside down on cass' car that I show above & that's why he replaced it that way after restoration. His is not the only car I've seen like this from Browns Lane. This was 1968 production.

I have a feeling you are going to find examples of it both ways. Jaguar was not that consistent. I have seen one (bad) picture of it the other way round and of course many cars did not have it at all.

Guess it depends if you are leaning over that wing, it's the right way up then !

My one was oriented the same way.
