Default 62, MK 2, Drive shaft

I’ve removed the driveshaft from my 62. There’s a nut holding the carrier bearing in place. Which I’ve removed. As you can see in the attached pictures. I don’t know whether I’m supposed to press the end flange off or if it comes off some other way. I don’t want to damage anything by messing around.

It looks similar to the tail shaft flanges on the DG 250. There's a square slot for the keyway, and it is probably splined (but why with a keyway?). It looks like it should just pull off with a puller or maybe a few "love taps" with a hammer. My tail shaft flange was just beyond finger tight after I removed the nut.

There's a woodruff key, so unlikely to have splines, but there is probably a long taper, so you will need a substantial puller.
When mounting the puller, install the nut back in place with the castle nut facing inward, this is to prevent the shaft from being damaged while applying pressure with the puller.
Snug up the puller as much as possible and whack the end of it with a 2 pound hammer, shouldn't need more then a 5 pound hammer.
If it doesn't "pop" loose, tighten the puller again, and do the same with the hammer _ continue this process until it lets loose.

It may come lose as Jerry suggested with a few taps, but from experience, that usually doesn't work.

You'll need a good quality one from someone like OTC tools.
I'm sure Jaguar has a custom tool for the job, but where to find one _ someone may know here.

I have a spare nut for the job and tried the love tap. It’s definitely solid on there. Next is to go to my sons shop and try the hydraulic press. I just needed another set of eyes to confirm it was pressed on.

Has to be pressed on as the only other way would be a big screw thread that would undo itself with the speed of the rotation.

The drive shaft on my Bentley has a similar set-up, only much bigger, this is the OTC puller I used in that case.
