Hmmmn not sure Florida would be the best place to have a highly polished object between you and the windscreen, the glare may lead to an accident !

Great job chaps.

It looks so good even not yet polished. It's a crime to paint it, like painting the cam covers black.

TilleyJon, but the 1967 cam covers don't lend themselves to polishing like the old ones.

Gents you are co mingling build dates with model years. While 340s and 240s were indeed built (some of them in 1967) they were all 1968 MY cars.

Right and it has ribbed cam covers and is a 1968 MY. The IPLS for the 240/340 were issued in Dec 1967.

Jose Homersimpson on here is restoring serial number one. Although the steering was evidently flopped at the works it would still require 1959 parts. Why not ask him if his covers are ALU?

When I see his post i will ask him George. I have a perfectly preserved turn signal / overdrive lights assembly with harness and fittings, it fits perfectly into the aluminium top half, bolts the same way too. Definitely MK2.

That's the first time I've seen the ribbed covers unpainted _ they look great !
I never like the painted ones on the 240/340; looked to modern for the car.
Always looked like someone stuck in a 4.2 litre XJ engine where it doesn't belong.

Thanks guys.

They take a bit of stripping back, the sides are slightly textured, so they have to be sanded up to (or down to depending or your view) 1200 grit then polished, I painted in between the ribs with Gunmetal grey to match the exterior, I was quite pleased with the result, they suit the engine I think, not as good as the smooth covers of pre '67, but ok.

I have been sanding that nacelle for 3 days by hand. I am beat. And now comes the actual polishing to make it like chrome. Then I will fit it to the S type and decide if polished aluminium is a big mistake. Not to mention the switch notches will have to be enlarged.

You need a proper buffing wheel to do it right.

These were all the first type.

So anyone out there with a Mk2 before those chassis numbers may have confirmation.
My MK2 was the first 3.8 (Chassis 210001) and has the indicators on the right. The surround is Bakelite not metal.
