Default Auto tranny gear shift knob

The DPO put a cheesy wooden bead or similar on the automatic transmission gear selector stalk of my Mk2 to replace the original knob. Can anyone suggest a source for a proper shift knob designed for this application? The end of the stalk is knurled not threaded.

Thanks.

Default Dimensions?

From what I've been able to learn online, the original knob is a simple black sphere, and McMaster Carr has a wide range of smooth black phenolic ball knobs that would look a lot better than the thing that's on there now. I just need to figure out the correct diameter.

Would someone be so kind as to measure the diameter of an OEM automatic gear selector knob and post it here?

Thanks.

Are you sure it's a round knob on the end, isn't the round black sphere meant for the stick shift in the middle of the console ?
I thought the plastic bit on the end that's held in place with the knurls is pretty much the same as the one on the signal lever arm _ or very close to it.

I'm just trying to interpret the drawing I've found in parts catalogues. I could be wrong.

Does anyone have a picture of this knob?

Thanks.

It took some digging, but I found a photo, if you save the photo and zoom it up a little in Windows photo viewer you can see it's not round. The lever on the left is for the signals.

Here's a modified Mark X with what looks like a round knob. (interesting car, it looks like a marriage of Art Deco and Art Nouveau...)

Yikes!

Thanks for the picture. I now understand why I haven't been able to locate an aftermarket replacement for just the knob.

You're probably going to end up buying the entire lever with the knob as you pointed out earlier that there is a knurl on there _ it was never meant to come off.
If it did it probably broke off from age.

Ebay and auto wreckers...

There has to be one out there somewhere.

So I had a little time on my hands and I checked in the parts catalogue available here on the forum and there are three shift lever arms available _ complete with knob as stated in the parts book.
C16362, C16526 and C27523

The last one is available form SNG Barrat and has a round knob _ go figure.

If you haven't already found it here is a direct link to the parts catalogue.

Look on plates 81, 82 and 83.

I also found the other two at SNG Barrat, but you'll have to figure which is the correct one that applies to your car.
I would give them a call.

Very helpful. I'll post what I learn after talking with SNG.
