The problem is probably the associated float chamber and float needle.
Give the top of the float chamber alight tap with something solid as it might be just a stuck float needle.
Otherwise, you may have a bad float or need a new needle.
I would concur with Bill. You will probably find the float set a fraction too low so the float valve does not close fully so whilst the pump is pumping the valve is not closing off the fuel to the float chamber. The AED is connected to the front carb float chamber via a alloy bridge at the bottom which allows the two fuel levels in the front float chamber and the AED to level out. If the float valve on the front float bowl is not closing then fuel will continue to flow into the AED and out of the top.

thanks all, new needle/valves, seals, etc. OE floats - they seemed fine, no rattles etc..
I’ll check everything you mentioned though and report back.
