Why not fit a second standard SU pump with a switch on the dash to change from one to the other if the first breaks down. The S type Jaguar has two fuel tanks and two fuel pumps with a switch on the dash to change from one to the other. The SU fuel pump is pretty bomb proof as long as it is used on a regular basis otherwise the points can freeze/stick together or they can corrode so the contact patch gets smaller. A good clean and a filing of the contacts with a nail file emery board every year with your service and the SU pump should last for years and never break down. If it does stop ticking it is generally the points sticking and a slight tap on the side with the handle of a screw driver will release them so they work again.
Caution on changing to another make or design of pump as the SU is a low pressure pump and a lot of the modern pumps as high pressure and a sure way of finding where all your potential leaks are in your system.

Those fuel pump are not cheap. For 350 each now. Im thinking using a facet fuel pump(1.5-2.5psi) as a backup

Many people swear by those pumps, and many seem to have bad luck with SU pumps, me, I've never had a problem with an SU pump, even with the old capacitor.
The Facet fuel pumps are not infallible though.
I never really trusted all this aftermarket electronic stuff.

From an old fuel company man now retired. Hardy pumps are some of the most reliable on the planet and direct fit & not polarity sensitive as some SUs are. They are alcohol safe. They even make the right noise. SU carbs like about 3 psi. They are low pressure units. Oil companies have a good global view on fuel pump failures.

Price has risen to £88.07 Inc Vat. Available at SNG Barratt and were used by Porsche until Fuel Injection took over.

Is the statement written in red letters in Italian on the side of the box an advertising slogan or a warning? 😉

LOL! ~ I'm not sure whether its intended as "Electric fuel pump" in Spanish or Italian, Peter

No doubt US influence. So likely to be Spanish. We want no Bomb-as

Actually, I was wrong about Italian. It is Spanish for electric fuel pump. In Italian, bomba is often used to describe something as very good, fast, powerful.

No harm done!. They are what I have in my car. No one can see them. Huco makes a similar unit but they can be troublesome. In fairness to Huco they have now fixed their alcohol compatibility issues but they are not top of my list.

I gave up on SU fuel pumps about 15 years ago.
I have overhauled so many over the last 50years and I believe the technology which pre dates World War 2 is ancient even with the electronic upgrades. In addition the cost of replacement parts such as diaphragms and points makes them uneconomical to repair.
I have fitted facet type pumps to several MK1, MK2 and S2XJ6 cars and have not had a single failure since.
The HARDIE pump looks like a good alternative if you don't want facet pumps.

Excuse my incorrect spelling of Hardi ~ SU pump failures are considerable & a pain. The wheel wrench or Thor hammer is used to coax them into action more times than changing wheels.

Facet pumps are excellent but getting pricey.

Back in my youth, we ameliorated the cost of replacing the SU pumps on Minis with Facets, by selling on the old pumps to Imp owners. I don't know if or where their mechanical pumps were passed further down the food chain.

Reliability of the fuel pump is the great aim and to heck with the cost. Hence my move to Facet pumps.
I still remember an occasion in 1969 when both SU fuel pumps failed in my MK7 Jaguar about 30 miles east of Thargomindah in outback Queensland (check it on Google maps, )
It was at 9 PM in summer with typically 90F+temps and in that part of the world you are really isolated and on your own. There are no automotive breakdown services and no communication except by flying doctor radio .
Lying under the car in the dust and dirt of an unsealed road I opened up one pump and I was able to clean the points with the striker side of a matchbox and get it going.
My wife of now 53 years still recalls as a newly wed ,that she heard swear words that night that she had never heard before!
Little wonder that won't use SU pumps if I can help it
