Default Brakes on mk 2

Hi everyone. Could anyone help me. I was talking to a jag owner at a show. He said he has fitted xjs callipers to the rear brakes on his mk 2 and jaguar series 3 to the fronts. If this is true. Is there a certain model of xjs that the callipers can be used from. Obviously this is an upgrade. Thank you.

I'm attempting to fit Series 2/3 E-Type brakes to my Mk 2. Not sure if you are aware that the callipers require the stub axle carriers (ball joint uprights?) from the donor car, as the callipers themselves have a large mounting bolt pattern.

It might also be worth checking wheel fitment. I have discovered I need different wire wheels which means buying 4 of, an expense I hadn't counted on.

Needless to say the Chancellor of the Exchequer (wife) is not impressed

Why reinvent the wheel when there are high performance 4 piston Wilwood brake kits for the MK1-2, & MK 3.8s already engineered to work as a direct bolt on upgrade?. I used this on my 450-460 HP V8 3.8s and it works great, order the kit with the vented rotors 17-1235 - Wilwood Brakes MK II But With EBC Rotors

XK's Unlimited sells this kit and another person you can contact is Andrew at Jaguar Specialties as besides V8 kits he sells stock and other performance parts often at better prices than other places.

Here are the Wilwood brakes installed in my 3.8s Jag

if you change the front brake callipers to four pot with vented discs you will also have to change the rear. i have bought the zues brake callipers for the front and will be fitting jaguar xj6 series 1-3 rear callipers

You don't have to but it is recommended, remember most of your braking is done in the front end roughly 70% depending on vehicle, weight transfer etc

I've read but haven't done it myself, that a simple caliper upgrade for the rear is to use the front calipers, larger piston.

As Primaz mentioned, a modern setup like the Wilwood would be the way to go, lightweight, readily available, great pad selection

That is not correct as the braking on any car is primarily the front and the rears do not contribute a significant amount. My car is pushing 460 HP and I do drive her hard every so often and with just the upgraded Wilwoods in the front and stock rear brakes this car stops very well. If you do the rears it is really more of a nice thing to do but not really needed. What you can do in the rear is just use better pads. If you race the car once in a while the "Green stuff" pads for the rears will be sufficient. I race a 240Z with 4 piston upgraded brakes in the front just like my Jag and it has drum brakes in the rear with green stuff pads and it stops with no issues even with the hard racing I push it.

I recommend to stick with the Wilwood kit as they are very good brand brakes with easy to get pad selections and a proven kit. If you go something different why use a stock Jaguar brake as that is a cheap way out; instead go with a 6 piston massive brake if you want something better than the Wilwood but if you are not pushing over 500 HP I see no value. The Wilwoods to me are way better than XKS brakes.

I upgraded my brakes by installing Volvo 4 pot callipers to the front and moving the old Jag callipers, which are larger to the rear. There are a number of posts on this already. Cost is about 75 euros.

That's what my current 3.8 has, but if my plans go ahead, i'll put this on the other MK2 and go something along the lines of wildwood or a modern suspension setup.

the Volvo calipers just need shimming to centre over the rotor and new brake lines made to suit

Default Wilwood front brakes on Mk2

Does anyone have experience of installing the Wilwood 4-piston calipers on a Mk2? I'm trying to instal them on my '67 (actually, the Daimler V8 version), and finding that the lower caliper-mounting bolt fouls on the steering arm. The instructions don't address this issue. The mounting brackets appear to be identical so I didn't worry about which one I put on which side. Was that a mistake? Are they handed? Any advice would be appreciated.
