Rev Counter Generator

Adaptor that screws into cam.

Plastic dog that fits into adaptor

If its just the plastic dog you need to replace remove circlip & fish it out with a screwdriver & push in a new one & refit circlip.

Sorry we posted over one another. See my post above. You need to use circlip pliers or just a screwdriver if circlip actually fitted has no holes.

No Churchill tool I know of. Someone might have a better suggestion on circlip removal.

Working at the back of the engine with a mirror can be a pain. My car's circlip in that location has holes for circlip pliers.

Churchill tool 18G 1004 works well with the 90 deg. points inserted--but any circlip tools with 90 deg will work.

Thanks,
I'm going to crawl on the engine with a mirror and hope to see a circlip with holes. ;-)

Presume that is no help with the older standard Jaguar Circlip with straight ends & no holes? I've never seen any tool for those darn things.

But will work with this type circlip with holes as fitted to my engine? As will most 90 deg inner/internal circlip pliers.

On a related note, is the tongued drive supposed to slide in and out? Mine will "snap" back into the generator housing if I push it in. It spins freely and does not feel any different than if I pull it back out and spin it. Its almost as if there is some sort of detent that allows it to be in one of two positions; in or out.
Thanks!!

you have found the problem: the "tongued drive" is not supposed to retract back into the generator. If it does, it disengages from it camshaft drive. I had to have my tach generator replaced last year for this very common issue.

This is how the drive dog is secured so it's probably the original one.
