My 1967 Mark 2 exhibits a creaking or "graunching" sound on the left side front when going over a significant sized bump.
I have swapped over side to side the GAZ shocks and the sound remains on the left side.
This led me to believe that the fault lay with the front spring and its seating. It could be moving on the seating under high compression of the spring.
I have researched all the Jaguar service bulletins but can find no mention of this issue.
Many other makes of cars have polyurethane rubber seating washers and I have considered making and fitting some, however this just treats the symptom and not the underlying cause.
I squirted some penetrating oil onto the spring to try and lubricate where it sits on the seat. This definitely improved the situation but it is still too noisy.
I should mention that the car ride height is fine and the same on both sides, so I don't think have a failing spring.
I will be removing the spring and doing a thorough examination, but before I do this I would like to hear of other's experience and comments.
Thanks
Bruce
Jaguar did use spring packing rings on some cars (certainly S Types ~ usually driver's side). The fact that lubrication helps would lead me in that direction. The spring seat. Are you sure you don't have a broken spring where you can't see it. Presume all your bushings & ball joints are good on the wishbones & roll bar.
