Daimler XJ40 seats need wiring help
Hello,
With Bryan Neish's help I have been able to get all switches and motors on the passenger seat(LH Drive) working. On the driver's seat I have everything working EXCEPT the fore/aft motor. I suspect that the problem is the wiring not the motor.
On the driver' seat there is an "extra" connector with three wires. One is solid pink, one is pink with a grey tracer, and one is black with a brown tracer. Bryan has advised that these wires are for the fore/aft motor in parallel with the fore/aft switch in the switch pack (the assembly of the four switches to control movements) to allow the seat to be moved rearwards when the door is opened before the ignition key is inserted.
I don't care about using this feature, but these wires and their connections (power and/or ground) seem to be keeping me from operating the fore/aft motor at all.
How should I connect them to get functionality?
This is a short video showing what I am referring to:

Unless you are the only driver you may need the 'live on entry' sytem. All ithat it is ; is a live to that side of the wiring (brown) when ignition off.Unlike the pass , when ignition triggers a relay to make live the switch. I recently carried out the addtion of same seats to my mk2.
All you need is a wiring diagram then it all becomes quite simple. There are several types of wiring depending upon the year of manufacture but there are many simularities. I have just moved house so my bits are all packed away in boxes otherwise I would give you a copy. I got mine from a guy from Aussie who is a member of this forum,I will try and find his name.
I fixed the required relay /wiring on the floor just in front of what was left of the front xmembr, covered by an shaped ally plate. You cant really see them at all. Are also easilly accessible, needs to be when you are on not so subtle with age.

I,ve found part of the diagrams.solid pink and the solid orange are the two wires that power the fore /aft movement. All the wires for both seats are supplied by a brown/yell via a relay. Both of these relays are live with ign on(pk/wht). In addition on the drivers cicuit, the aforementioned relay is also feed via an additional relay(as well as ign feed)that is live with the door switches, so is live with door open only. There are extra wires to seat heaters, who's circuit includes a sensor pad switch. From memory these may be black/brwn
you can make simple test by just making the pk/or live in the first instance.
There are however variations.
cant you trace these odd wires back to source???
The last mentioned relay is fed by a pk/bl via a grn/yell from door gaurd sw.
Basicaly the motor wires feed directly. The only funny stuff is on the feed side of the circuitry. If you have extra wires go to the seat itself identify where they go to etc , this will help identify there use.Just remember that the feed to the motors is direct from the switches with NO intervention by other circuits.
Hope this is of help barry

Thank you Barry!
This morning I got full motion from all of the motors 😀
If you could send me some photos of how you mounted your switch panels in a private message (or post here) I would really appreciate it.
While all of the motors are functioning properly, the seat heaters are not. I really don't care about having them, but since they are there I thought I might try to get them working. Any ideas? I intend to spend some time with the heaters tomorrow and see what I can figure out.
how many relays did I you end up using for both seats?
I really appreciate your assistance. Thanks so much!
