Hi all,

does this chassis number stamping look correct ?
position ?
font ?
the fact that the metal around the number is kind of concave towards the number etc

yes, looks alright to me, similar to my S type. There is another Body Number stamping in the rear of the body but you will have to remove the rear bumper to see it.

But my 1966 Mk 2 has no such serial number stamped anywhere on that panel.

maybe because it is a replacement bonnet catch channel? That could mean your car was involved in a horrible collision?

Absolutely NOT. My car has had no body damage and I have owned it since it had a documented 16,000 miles on it (and just 25,500 now after 16 years of ownership); that part of the car is as it left the factory.
It does have the normal plate attached to the scuttle.

hey ceejay, hold on buying that car, after analizing the picture something is not right.

the first thing is those welding "dots" on the edges of the catch channel.

I could be wrong, but I'm going to take a picture of my S type channel to show you how mine is.

Thanks. Waiting to see your photo.

I did look long long and hard to see if the bonnet catch Chanel had been transplanted but it has not. All the surrounding panels neatly fold over etc and it seems original to the body.
Also the large tag in the engine bay seems undisturbed.
One can easily tell by looking at the rivets

You never know,my car had a new wing after a year. and you can't tell even when I stripped it to bare metal, the only reason I know is that I have a receipt for it with the car.

Ceejay,

the manual says it should also have BW after it on that stamping, (as yours is ), mine has DN after it for the overdrive.

Jose, does the stamping on yours indicate this or just the chassis no alone ?

I have looked at a few other cars and none have the English characters stamped on the bonnet latch Chanel. Only the serial number.
