Engine stops when accelerating

Engine stops when accelerating
Hello allRecently, I was driving when the engine suddenly stops. I let the car for one hour or two and it starts again.
Since I bought the car two years ago I always ear the petrol pump noise (pump noise with clang clang then ok) when the ignition is on .
after this 2 hours the engine starts again I filled up the petrol tank (it was not empty but 1/8 ).
I ear the petrol pump and the engine start. I drive a bit and when accelerating I feel that the engine does not follow the acceleration request. Even the engine start to decrease in rev/min and stopped again. I decrease the power to 20 km/h low rev and it keeps running until home.
I fell that if I accelerating again the engine will stopped.
What is your experience on that matter, what are your advices?
Thanks
Georges in Finland
The car is a MK1 2,4 l from1956

You could also be suffering fuel vapourisation. Do you use this car often. Winter gas in the tank with more light ends will do this in summer.
Oilco's make Winter & Summer grade gasoline. If you hit critical temperature on winter gas the car will stop.
Agree with CF. Check all filters first.
I would also check the fuel pick up pipe in the tank. They rust through and the fuel pump for pressure. This is a very low pressure system & you need at least 3 psi.
The Solex carbs were always troublesome. Make sure they are spotlessly clean in all areas & that float levels are correct. Check needle & seat.

on a car of that vintage, considering how much work has probably been done on it over the years, it (or they) could be anywhere from inside the gas tank to the float bowls.
i've seen some nice glass bodied ones on mark 2's in the engine compartment mounted on the right side wheel well.
does sound like fuel starvation. there are a number of causes, but i'd be praying it was a plugged filter or a kinked line. vapor lock can be tricky to diagnose and even worse to fix, IME.

Someone has been doing a lot of re-plumbing on that car. None of those are original hoses. I'm not surprised you can't find the filter.
The standard filter is mounted here on the inner RHS wheel arch in front of the wiper motor. Shown perfectly on this car under restoration.

I am a MK1/MK2 register leader in my local Jaguar Drivers Club
I have run across this sort of problem on a number of occasions.
Again and again it has been a partially clogged in tank fuel filter.
Starts and runs Ok but dies off after a few Ks.
Let it sit for a while and restarts ok but cuts out or goes rough starving in a few Ks.
I would start by pulling the in tank filter.
