Fuel Pump problem?

I know I have numerous threads open on here but to be honest they mostly relate to the losing power thread.
I cleaned the fuel filter in the engine compartment on priming the filter it took ages to fill -stopping half way up the glass. Is this normal??

Once the key is on the pump will fill the glass bowl in a number of seconds.
The pump will tick over steadily until the back pressure from the closure of the float valves raises the back pressure and the pump will stop pumping.
This takes about 5 to 10 seconds, if that.
There is a restriction somewhere or your pump needs to be adjusted and or overhauled.
You said you cleaned the fuel filter in the engine compartment, is that the brass screen in the glass sediment bowl ?
There are also two brass screens where the fuel line splits and goes into each float bowl. They are present when the banjo fittings are removed.
There is also another filter in the tank and some internal ones in the pump itself (but it depends on the model of the pump, some don't have screens), all of which are fine screens, but none the paper element type.
When was the last time the pump was serviced and or adjusted ?
Have you removed the pump from the car and tested on the bench ? I do this outside with a bit of fuel, some lines and a couple of small buckets to hold/catch the fuel.
It should squirt the fuel about a foot.
You have to start removing the variables from the equation to find the problem. I would start by bench testing the pump to make sure that it's working properly.
From there you can start eliminating other possible problems, but it sounds like the pump isn't pushing the fuel.
If it pumps fine as described earlier, then you have a blocked filter or a restricted line somewhere.
On my car there is a solid steel line that runs from trunk area up to the glass bowl (no soft line). Sometimes the line can be pinched, kinked or blocked for what ever reason. Once the pump is removed you should be able to syphon fuel through that line with no problem.
An air compressor also comes in handy to check for blocked fuel lines.
