Default Heater valve - 1 or 2 clamps

Hi friends,

I changed my heater valve on my 240 today.

Unfortunately, the new part seems not to fulfill the needs completely.

I have the cable that pulls and pushes when I operate the lever from inside the car. And I have a little stick that in turn pushes a lever on the side of the heater box, turning something inside the box.

My old valve had two clamps (or whatever they are called, a screw is tightened onto the cable / little stick) for the two, my new part only has one - any suggestions?

And what is operated inside the heater box?

I would say that's the wrong heater control valve, I don't know what it's for though. I bought my new one from XKs in the US a little while ago now and it is the same as your old one.
The one pictured at David Manners looks incorrect _ like your new one.

I have my heater box out of my car now and I took a quick look and that control flap inside the box appears to keep the air from flowing through the heater matrix when the valve shuts off the flow of coolant to the matrix itself.

With out that flap working or rather not being attached the heater valve, it would take a little longer for the air to become cooler simply because the flap would remain open all the time rather the immediately blocking the flow of air through the matrix.

If the flap was manually set in the closed position it would appear that you would not get any warm air, even if the valve was fully open to allow full flow of coolant to the heater matrix.

If you closely look at the photo you can just see the additional linkage attachment on the valve.

Default part no's

I would concur with jeff re part numbers. My replacement has only 1 hole for clamp and this arm traverses through the valve and has a connection for another wire/cable that has the reverse effect ie pulls when other arm is pushed and vice versa!!!!!!!!!!! I am doubtful that my valve is correct.!!!!!!!!!!!!! barry

Hi Jeff,

Thank you!

That's what I guessed - that the second arm is for stopping the air... Nice to know!

Looking back at my purchase I can see I wasn't paying enough attention - I saved a fiver (are you guys counting in pounds?), but got the wrong part - the pictures looked alike. Stupid me.

I think it will be easy and safe to make a workaround - and get the right part next time it's due :-)

I will post my fix
