Heating system on Jaguar MK2
Hi to alls
The heating/ventilation system is not the best on Jaguar MK2s.
In particular, when it rains, it can sometimes be difficult to clear condensation from the windshield. This can be dangerous on the highway or at night.
Is there a solution to upgrade the original heating system (more powerful motor or others) ?
Thanks in advance
Gérard

There are a few different ways you can go. The easiest is to obtain more air by always opening the scuttle vent.
If you decide to rebuild what you have, it's important to make sure the flaps inside the heater box are moving and closing properly. The same goes for the hot water valve. And the heater matrix may well be clogged. However, even at its best, the standard system is not really good enough.
Upgrades: many have swapped the fan for more powerful ones from other cars - I don't remember which, but a Google search should find them. Some have added an electric water pump between the manifold water rail and the heater. There's a company called Clayton that make upgrade kits. Probably others do as well.
My preference is to bin the lot and adapt a system made for kit cars (see Car Builder Solutions) or from another car (a modern small sports car or the series XJ?).

In my opinion it is not so much the lack of heat but the distribution of the heat. I believe there is a larger more efficient heater matrix that can be fitted just like an upgrade to the radiator but the fan is appalling. On the S Type (not sure that the Mk2 has the same) we have tubes that run under the gearbox tunnel to vents by the back seats but even with the fan on full you cannot feel the air moving out of the vents. And as for trying to demist the front screen well it is a joke. I have been meaning to upgrade the fan on my car for some time but not yet come across a suitable replacement fan for the heater box that does not require cutting the heater box up. I have looked at putting some 12v inline electric fans inserted into the air hoses that run from the heater box to screen and rear seats but have yet to find one of the correct diameter. They would be hidden from view and linked up to the dash fan switch wired in with a relay.
Note to self must look harder to find one before the winter comes around again.
