Default HOW TO: S type and MK-2 Lucas 2SJ Screenjet

these are the Operation and Wiring Instructions for the famous Lucas 2-SJ Screenjet windshield washer system used since 1959 in many Jaguar models.

*observe that Number 9 Wiring schematic is for POSITIVE GROUND cars and Number 11 is for NEGATIVE GROUND cars.

**these instructions are not for the later 5-SJ system with the plastic water container and pump.

Default Lucas 2sj

Hello i am a new member with a 63 Mk 2. Currently it is fitted with a 5sj which is not Original. Saw prices of up to 150 GBP for a 2sj Glass bottle. Do you think that is Too expensive ?

yes it is an expensive replacement part, but you might find a used glass jar on eBay or at a salvage yard.

how many wires going to the 5SJ does your wire harness have? if two wires only, then the 5SJ was original. The 2SJ wire harness has 3 wires, (two hot, one ground/earth).

I understand both SJ bottles were used in the MK-2, S type, MK-X, 420, 420-G, and many other British cars of the period, Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls Royce too.

what I did in my S type was to install a modern washer pump and connect the pump's suction hose to the 2SJ glass bottle at the brass nipple/port on the cap, works every time. The 2SJ motor doesn't last long (it burns out), and the glass bottle is very fragile, that's why they went to the 5SJ with a plastic bottle.

I paid 160 GPB for a complete screenwasher twelve years ago for my DB5 which used the same part as Jaguar.

These were always an expensive part - even in the 1960's when used in current production vehicles.

Suppliers know owners of that period of vehicle who want originality are prepared to pay for the genuine part so the price stays high.

Thumbs up Lucas 2sj

Think you Graham and José for the Information. The Strange thing with my Car is that it still has the Square Glass bettle holder fitted, which is currently Holding an oval Shaped 5sj plastic bottle - but there are only two Wires going into the pump. So lets say i buy the 2sj for 160 GBP, will i be able to geht it working?

Another Topic : i Read that the Swiss importer for Jaguar, i think the Company still Exists, Used to Seal the Cars with wax Even back in 1963? True or Fake news?

this is a 2SJ, if you have the squared bottle bracket, then it had a 2SJ, but with only two wires the 3-second automatic washer function won't work, but you can always hold the switch up when you want to spray the glass with water. That's what I do because I got tired of the original 2SJ motor burning up.

my XJ-6 has some areas sprayed with wax, but my S type has oil-based undercoating, the black tar stuff.

Apologies for interrupting this thread but I have an original 2SJ Lucas Screenjet washer bottle, it has sat in a garage for many years until a garage clearance unearthed it and I was going to put it on Ebay.

Is there any simple way of telling if the pump still works ?
I have tried putting wires from a 12 Volt battery to the + and - terminals on the pump but it didn't do anything.
This is the actual pump, bottle and holder here..

the pump always burns up, it's probably dead. If MK2swiss doesn't buy it as is, I will.

I would imagine the postage costs would be quite high as I'm in the UK, but thanks for the reply and offer anyway.
There is also one of the round shaped Screenjet washer bottles as well, but it seems to have temporarily disapeared in the garage for the moment, it'll be found again though.
If you seen the garage a few months ago you would understand why .....

It looks like there has been an earthquake near your garage ! I know the feeling ---
" It's in here somewhere I know it is "

I'm after some outer bumper brackets to borrow for a pattern, or buy, do have you any lying around SOMEWHERE ?
