How to operate my MK2
I can say the same for the ZF 6HP in my XKR. It's brilliant, efficient ... and, if you want to change your own gears, you can.
Unfortunately, it's close to impossible to fit a modern auto box to an old car. The Ford 6R80 (a 6HP built under licence) is about the only option that has external electronics, but there's still the mechanical problems of adapter plates etc.

I have an XF Sportbrake with an 8 speed auto but a manual sport mode override. Very smooth as you would expect with so many gears but as you say converting this type of box with all the electronics to an older car must be a nightmare.
My S Type has the 3 speed BW35 and I do not have any problems with it. I find it amazing that this gearbox will allow my 3.4s to accelerate from 0 to 60 in 10.5 seconds and then keep going all the way up to 120 with just the three gears. Yes throw in a couple of intermediary gears and the engine would not rev to high between changes but then you would miss out on the Jaguar roar as the old XK engine beats its tune at 5000 rpm. (Not that I go there very often in the old girl.)

Yes ~ memories of my Mums old Chrysler Valiant with the good old Torqueflite 3 speed. My Dad would not drive Auto's & was always irritated at the rate at which she burnt through rear tyres. Benz 722.9 Plus 7 speed like mine onwards to the 9 speed run the lowest viscosity synthetic ATF ever made in the interests of efficiency & the stuff goes 120,000 Kms between changes. TCU on both is built into the conductor plate within the transmission & fully programmable with a Star computer in developer mode. How times have changed. I just keep my box up to date with the latest software flashes at service time. The thing has only done 30K miles.

I think it all depended on what was left on the shelf. In the S Types the BW35 came in in 1967. My car is manufactured Sept 67 registered March 1968 and was one of the first S Types to have the BW35. Your car might be early 1967 manufacture date rather than registration date. Is your classed as a 240 with slim bumpers or a Mk2 thick bumpered 2.4?

Hi Glyn,
I have a 64 Daimler with a BW 35 and a Mercedes Benz B 250 2 L turbo petrol 7 speed auto. Have to be very careful in traffic when driving the Daimler as it does not accelerate like the Benz. I love reading your posts bur get a bit confused when you refer to SA as i live in Aust. think of South Australia not South Africa.
David Bruce.

Jose South America is a continent made up of 14 countries. South Africa is a country on the continent of Africa which has 54 countries. Each country is allocated a two letter abbreviation such as US for the USA or GB for Great Britain. The seven continents are not allocated an abbreviation.
How long have you known Glyn for now? I am sure in more than one post, here or on the S Type forum, he has stated he lived in South Africa rather than saying just SA and if you look in his details top right of all his posts here it states Cape Town, South Africa.

Fortunately our location is clearly displayed here top right. Enjoy the Daimler & Benz. With Daimler jealously guarding the Mercedes Benz & Daimler Brands outside the UK your combo could also cause confusion. LOL!
