I used to own a 1965 Mk11 3.8 Auto with column change gear shift, I have recently seen one with a floor change, can anyone tell me if this was an option or when Jaguar changed the gear shift. thank you

No it was not an option but I've seen XJ6 floor changes modded to fit or later transmissions fitted.

an automatic MK-2 with a center console automatic transmission shifter?

no, never. Not factory. Probably adapted from a XJ-6 which have center console automatic transmission shifters

XJ-6 center console or "floor" shifter,
is this what you saw? Then the car probably has a BW65 or BW66 transmission, even a GM 400 R is possible using the same shifter.

Appears that the center console was also modified. The console is shorter. No heat vents at the end as well as looks much taller than original. I believe Vicarage also used a console mounted gear selector but as I recall it sat on an unmodified console. Could anyone post a Vicarage modified MK 2 with this selector? Thanks.

Any suggestions on doing this modification. I am considering now. Thanks.

Bob

Most Vicarage cars are manual.

These are the best pics I have of Vicarage auto consoles.

I think the pictures above show a Series 3 XJ-6 automatic shifter normally used with the BW66 automatic transmission and a XJ-40 automatic shifter used with the Getrag ZF automatic transmission that has a Manual "Sports" setting. I have no clue what Vicarage ever did.

As far as the center vent for the rear seat, they were never very useful, more cosmetic than functional as not much air comes out of it in the MK-2 or the S type or the 420 or the MK-X or the 420-G. No loss there.
