I found two of these which look similar to the boot lamps used in the S type but they have an added bracket which is not used in the S type.

anybody know what other Jaguar model used these mercury-gravity switched lamps? the 420 maybe?

 

I think that early XJ's had them. On my XJ6, they did not function and I removed them.

Incredibly, mine works, but I learned the hard way that the parking lights need to be switched ON for the boot light to come on. Same with the glovebox light.

 

Mk 10 and 420G not sure about the 420 but most likely!

 

The lamp/switches are the same in the Stype Mk10 and 420G, but those did not come with the bracket, the XJ6 series 1 had the same lamp C18778 and came with the bracket C29910.

 

all the way from S type / MK-X / 420-G, to Series 1 XJ ?

not a very user-friendly boot lamp if you ask me.
