I am looking at purchasing a 1963 Mk2 automatic. The car is in Queensland and an airline flight away. However i have a contact with a local guy with a Daimler equivalent which I can have a drive of, my question is "Are the 3 speed boxes the same in the Jag and Daimlers?

No they're not ! The Daimler came with the BW Type 35, the Mark2 carried on with the older BW DG box until the 240 and 340 models came out. Very late Mark 2s may have had the later box too. The BW 35 box is more compact.

 

The Type 35 is easily identified by it's all aluminium casing. The previous 3 speed fitted to early Jaguars was the BW DG 250 (DG = Detroit Gears)
