Default MK2 Bonnet Catch Spacing Bushes

Hello all,
Oliver provided a great photo that told me how to assemble the bonnet catch. I misplaced the spacing bushes (if they were there at all) when I disassembled the car. I have located two, but wonder if they are correct. I have measured them as can be seen in the images below. Oliver, can you or someone else confirm if these are the correct bushes?

Thanks.

Lin

Hi Lin

The bushes must be the right one. Have a look at the pictures.

Regards,
Oliver

Default More bonnet latch questions

Just joined forum. Realise this was a 2013 thread but maybe someone can help.

Restoring a 1968 Mk (2), 240.

Been held up over last couple of years with delays in the body shop due to Covid restrictions but back to refitting. Mostly going well.

I searched issues with the bonnet catch and have come across identical situation to Lin. I cannot recall removing any spacers and they were not in the tin with the bonnet catch pieces. Having replaced the catch without spacers the bolts need to be left loose to allow the slide plate to move over so spacers seem necessary as leaving bolts loose would not have been Jaguar engineering.

I have all of the pieces shown in the previous thread, the piece above the radiator cowl portion of the bonnet section. The moveable slide plate and the fixed nut bottom catch plate with lever. The bolts finish flush with the captive nuts and that seemed correct but truthfully I cannot work out the placing of the spacer tubes. On the previous thread picture of the mechanism would suggest the sliding plate is tight flush against the bottom of the cowl panel. The plates seem to be designed to slide one on top of each other. So where do the spacers go? Is it between the two plates?

Hope someone can advise and I can make up some spacers from the previous images and dimensions.

Thanks Frank

McMasterCarr has bushings. I lost one ordered two, found the one I lost. If someone doesn't have a loose one to measure, I can take one off the car to measure.

Thank you.

The previous owners on the 2013 post have posted the dimensions of the bush with photographs. I was struggling to work out where they should go within the 3 piece latch set but they have to go between the sliding plate and the fixed plate presumably to lift the sliding plate directly off the car body?

Thanks for your offer but please don't be taking yours apart to measure them for me.

Regards

Frank

I happen to have my latch assembly off the car, along with a crude sketch. The picture shows what I think I was trying to convey in my sketch to myself. The OD is 0.50 inches on both spacers. The spacer on the left in the picture is slightly shorter than the one on the right. I assume that is factory but I'm not sure why that would be. The striker plate sit on top of the spacers.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was looking for.
It would seem the spacers are to lift the tongues of the sliding plate just clear (underneath) of the bonnet latch panel.

As a temporary fix I have used 6 metric 6 washers for each bolt. I have superglued them together to create a spacer mostly so there won't be washers all over the place when I take the latch off again. As they are fixed spacers without any movement they should be stable once the bolts are tightened.

The measurements come out very similar to Lin's and Oliver's posts so I'm confident it should be OK and I can always add another washer if the slider is still too tight.

Thanks for your advice it's been extremely helpful

Frank
