Default Mk2 Panels Under Dashboard

Hi Everyone
I'm currently restoring a 1965 mk2 3.8 manual LHD. The trim panels under the dash on both the drivers side and passenger side are made of aluminium and covered in vinyl. A friends car has this same thing on his drivers side but under the passenger side it's a black board and not covered in vinyl. Can anyone tell me what the correct arrangement should be? Thanks

Mine is aluminium covered with some sort of leatherette (shiny fabric) of the same colour as the seats.

Both sides should be aluminium pressings covered in vinyl that matches the seat leather colour. Sounds like one on your friend's car got lost in the mists of time since it came out of the factory.
