Default MK2 or "S" reclining seats

I am a new member - as of today! Not sure if this is appropriate here or not, but I guess someone will advise me.

I would like to replace my 64 MK2 front seats with the reclining seats that were available as a MK2 option and that I believe we're standard on the S-type. I have seen one pair on eBay that is in pretty rough shape with a big price tag. Does anyone have a lead on a pair? Thanks very much.

Recovering the S type seats will cost a lot of money. If you are near Cleveland, someone is selling a '65 S type parts car and you might buy the whole car to get the seats, then resell it.

the reclining seats were standard on the 1963-1968 S type and the same seats were standard in the 1966-1968 420. They are very comfortable seats with armrests in the center, as well as reclining.

Jose, from your comments re the seats fo AM models. You are saying that mk2 & s type & 420 have the same seats, I dont think that is correct.
recliners were fitted in mk2s as an option, Dont forget the Daimler options

Sorry, missed the excellent intro you posted.
Sometimes the 'view all posts' doesn't return every one - or I'm going even more senile than I thought !

Hello all,
For those familiar with the reclining seats available as an option in the MK2 and I think standard in the S-Type Saloons,
are the seat cushions the same as on the "fixed" seats? In other words, can the "fixed" seat cushions be used on the reclining seats frame?

Thanks!

I am not sure of that, the standard seat cushions on the S type and in the 420 are wider, and they are somewhat shaped differently because the seat frame is somewhat different too. The seat cushions in the S type and 420 are shaped so that they meet at the center while being elevated over the center console for about 3 inches horizontally (or so) until they meet with the opposite cushion. Something like that. Hard to describe but even the spring frame of the seat cushion is shaped like that, as well as being deep vertically where the seat cusion "enters" the seat frame from the top down and it "clicks" into place.

here's two pics from 2004 when I bought my S type, showing the top and underside of the passenger seat which need a minor repair to the underside clips.

Hmmm. Okay. I wonder if the MK2 reclining seat option had the same cushions as the fixed or if all reclining seats were like yours in the S?

I have no clue what the MK-2 reclining option was, never seen it, I do know that the S type (1963-1968) and the 420 (1966-1968) have the same identical seats, the seats are indiviually mounted (buckets) to the flloor with 4 bolts each, but they look like one bench seat with folding arm rests at the center, one for driver, one for passenger, reclining is also individually adjusted by a chromed lever on each side of each seat.

Thanks to those who helped. I have now purchased a pair of MK2 tilting seats. So my search is over.

Lin, you must give some follow up on the sea saga. Most interesting. For your info the recliners on the mk2 jaguar, the seat were individual and did not meet in the middle. The seats in the Daimler were different.I'll have to refer to a book to give any more info
The numer of pleats in the seat was altered at some point, I think from 7 to 8.

Yes the Daimler had seats that meet over the tunnel with individual arm rests multi pleated. The jaguar mk2 had no arm rests didnot quite meet and had the section in the middle, underneath, similar to the picture shown by Jose. I think that the number of pleats changed when they made the 240 340 models from 7 to 8.The reclining mechanism was available in trim colour or chrome plated.there was further modification to the rear back bottom ,for passengers feet .They also had the folding picnic trays in the seat backs. I had better stop there as I may earn the title of geek.
