Default Mk2 vs 340

While sorting new material for cataloging (or is that catalogue) we ran across an item that may help solve the issue (hopefully).. Until 1967 the Mk2 was imported to the US but normally in 3.8 L form. While there is evidence some 3.4 and a hand full of 2.4 were ordered they are rare. For the 1967 MY the US market wished to change the way models were referred to. So for 1967 MY (USA only) the MK2 became the 340. In 1968 there were no (0) Mk2s or 340s imported as they were not in compliance in several areas. In 1968 Jaguar offered a small bumper (much like the 'S') and that was the 240/340. We found a UK sales brochure that at first we thought was a US brochure but it is not. The following scans are of the UK and the US versions of the same catalog(ue). Note the small differences in description as well as the printers. The UK version was not known to us prior but the two together illustrate the confusion folks have. In 1968 the only Jaguar Sedan that was legal to import was the new XJ6 which came very late in the year. Stocks of 67 cars could of course be sold and were but as 67s. The title however may say 1968 but that is a state issue. So enjoy and please ignore the dark lines--scanner needs replacement as it looks clean so must be burn out!

George, the front thin bumper of the 340 is the same S type's front bumper. It mounts with the same identical bracketry as the S type. The S type front thin bumper fits a 340, and a 340 front thin bumper fits a S type.

what is different and exclusive to the 340, is the REAR thin bumper. No other model had it.

I prefer the look of the 340 simply because of the thin bumpers, and the 340 can be easily converted or "retroed" to MK-2 specs simply by changing the vinyl seats to the leather seats.

Also I wonder how a MK-1 would look with the thin 340 bumpers, probably wonderful.
