Default MKII Windshield Molding

When I purchased my MKII in 1980, the windshield molding was missing. I sold the car in 1982 and reacquired it in 2015 and started a full restoration. As part of the process, I was able to find the windshield molding parts and after I installed the windshield, I noticed that the moldings were slightly curve and the sides and the windshield is perfectly straight. Has anyone else experienced this issue? My car is a very early MKII and I don't know if that is a factor.

Something is bent. All Mk2's, S Types & 420's take the same windscreen & have the same A pillar. The Mk1 screen was 1 inch narrower top to bottom.

It is crucial that when fitting new screens that they are seated properly in the bottom corners or the rubber can pull back from the rebate.

Your problem seems to be with distorted chrome trims.

Thanks Glyn. I can see from the photos you provided that mine are very different. I am beginning to suspect that they are from another British car. I don't think both sides could be distorted. Both vertical sides of the ones I have are identical. Now all I have to do if find the correct moldings.

The good thing is that they are very easy to rechrome well. Just remember to wire them together at their centre holes under the cover clip if they have the holes. Some did not. Also glue them in place as Jaguar recommend. I used Loctite 480. They are known to blow off at speed if you don't. Jaguar recommends a Bostick product that is long out of production.

LOCTITE® 480™ is a rubber toughened adhesive with
increased flexibility and peel strength along with enhanced
resistance to shock. LOCTITE 480 is a toughened, fast curing
instant adhesive that is ideal for bonding metal to metal,
rubber or magnets, particularly in humid environments.

definitely wrong. Were those the ones I shipped to you?

I remember placing both halves over the ones in my S type and they weren't bent like that.

Jose,

I'm not sure when or where I got them. The two I have don't look like they have been bent or reshaped in any way. Both pieces are identical in all aspects. As I mentioned to Glyn, these may be from another British car. I'm sure I will be able to find the correct moldings. There are enough MKII's that have been parted out and I know there are still parts to be had.

Ted
