IBA (Internet Brands Automotive) forums seldom suffer issues. They are some of the most sophisticated out there. The S Type Register has just suffered a successful attack (fortunately swiftly attended to by Tom) as has the F1 forum I use. MBWorld ~ the jewel in the IBA crown has just had a shower of attacks all of which were repelled.

Forums have quiet patches.

This forum needs a brighten up/refresh of the main header ~ it's dull as hell. We are just doing a new one on MBWorld. The present one is about 4 years old.

My wish is they get rid of the "related threads" thing that comes up at the bottom; as the threads are usually not related at all and it makes it easy to post in the wrong forum.

.... like the one below, which successfully doesn't answer the question, irrelevant to this thread, on how to answer a new thread. It's also a pain when you're looking for the end of a long thread. A list of links to possibly related threads is sufficient. I can't say I favour changes for the sake of changes or freshening up; that's like when they move stuff around in the supermarket you go to every week: a waster of time.

Lack of new material: there aren't all that many of these cars left; they aren't that complicated; and there's not so many things that can be done with them. If we were well organised with stickies, like the XJS subforum, we could probably reduce the the new threads to very little. That wouldn't be very interesting though, would it? And so, like most of the classic car magazines, we go around in circles occasionally coming up with something new that, together with the enjoyable interaction, makes it all worthwhile. Let's not spoil it.

The moving of things in the Supermarkets is a sales ploy. If everything was in the same place you would automatically go to the same shelves every week and buy the same things. By moving the items around it forces you to look for items and they hope you will whilst doing so find something you have never bought before that pleases you.
The other thing they do is the items they want to promote or sell as they are nearly out of date they place on the end of the isle as this is the point whilst turning the corner that the public walk the slowest and therefore have more time to have their eye caught. They are not allowed to do it now but sweets used to be sold at the checkouts. It was a way to get parents to have to buy sweets for their children who were stood bored waiting for the parent to pay for their goods.
Sales Psychology one o one.
I hate it as well.

Anyone think of a Jaguar sales brochure that was stretching the truth a little. I have a couple where instead of a photo there is a drawing of the S Type. The drawing shows the car about two foot longer with a lower roof line to make it look sleeker. If only they made the car in the drawing!

JB ~ It was a decision taken across the board as an enhancement at IBA. Only people that did not like it were Audi forum. Maybe time for a rethink. We run out of CA & Toronto. I will raise it with the head honcho in Toronto ~ he & I talk easily. (not that speedlimit & I don't at MBWorld ~ a matter of hierarchy). We will have to go with the majority but let's get it considered for change.

Thanks Glyn! I have noticed that if we talk about thermostats for example, then the "related thread" brings up a thermostat thread on the V8 cars - which have totally different problems than on a Mark 2.

I have caught myself more than once going to what I thought was the bottom of the thread and really ending up in a totally different forum. I look stupid talking about S Type things on the X351 forum.

The famous "Enhancement". On the airline forums I follow "Enhancement" has become an derogatory term for a service reduction, extra charges or some other degradation of the passenger experience, usually rolled out by some marketing fluff press release:

"Our passengers tell us that they value a quick meal service to enable them to maximize sleeping time, so the multi-course meals in First Class have been enhanced to a snack box containing a kit-kat and a juice box. This also reduces noise in the cabin by eliminating the sound of silverware on china plates and elimininating the clinking of glasses and popping of champagne corks, allowing for a better sleeping environment".

In that context I agree the related threads are indeed an enhancement!
