Parts availability
Looking into doing up a 1964 Mark II S type in Australia. Can you still purchase most parts new for this car. Have re engined my xj 6 and getting itchy fingers again. No problem purchasing the project
Hello Ben,
Welcome to the forum.
You're query is rather open ended as we can't imagine what parts you need. Typically, most everything is available for our cars but there's a lot of obscure bits you won't find new. For example, the shift lever escutcheon on the steering column can only be found used, not available new.
I need one BTW
There are a lot bigger questions when pondering a restoration than availability, hope this one works out for you!
Regards

Thanks Steve. Did not want to start a project that I could not buy new parts fairly easily. Plenty of bodies around and I want to have a go at body work,Something I have avoided in the past due to lack of ability. Only one way to learn
Our forum sponsor SNG Barratt does have some parts available new for the Mk2, have a look at the catalog here SNG Barratt - The Ultimate Jaguar Parts Specialist
The 60s S-type was a development of the Mark 2 and there is a lot of commonality of mechanical parts, (engine, brake, suspension), but not much elsewhere. Electrics are Lucas and again a lot of commonality. Body panels will be very difficult as will trim items. The good news is that most internal trim is "off the roll", there being almost nil use of plastic mouldings, but what there are will be very difficult to obtain new.
If you really do want to restore an old S-type don't be put off, because I'm sure you'll manage to find almost everything you need over time.

you can find most anything from many suppliers in the UK, US, and eBay. Used and new parts abound. Do not be discouraged, parts always show up, someone is always parting out one of these cars. Jaguar Cars themselves are opening up a shop in Coventry to restore these cars, so the obvious is that they will also be opening up a parts supply channel.
