Default Rear Brakes

Tried to buy a new seal kit for my rear brakes today, but was told that what I have might be E-Type brakes. Can anyone tell from the pic what brakes I have on the back of my MK2?

Looking in my parts catalog, yours appears to be the correct caliper for the Mk2. It should have a bolt on piston on the inside as well, just as it does on the outside. I dont have the pics at hand for it (but you can look them up at SNGBarratts or Jaguar Heritage parts) but I believe the E-type calipers have 1 integral piston and 1 bolt on piston. Can you fill us in on the background a bit more? Who told you this and why, etc?

That is an after market part. ALL production E-Types as well as other Jaguars of this period would be marked "DUNLOP".

I was on the phone with Welsh Jag. The guy asked me what size the pistons were and said it would be marked on them. I gave him the part number and he said he thought they might be E-Type, but that I would have to dismantle the piston and measure it to be sure I got the correct size seal.

I think 8778 is the correct part number for a MK2 rear brake cylinder albeit as mentioned above this is an aftermarket part.

Being stainless hopefully the inside will be fine for reuse.

Best thing to do is as suggest above, strip one down to check whether seals in it are the same as an original one.

See here SNG Barratt: -

There are probably other suppliers out there, but I don't think prices are going to be wildly different.
