I have just visited Alan Sawston's (AJS Engineering) website on the suggestion of NWG, a member of the forum in connection with a query re rear brakes.
Just for information there is a series of very good articles on the website detailing the process of rebuilding the Jaguar IRS rear suspension, brakes and differential at the following link;

Alan is a good guy, very knowledgeable about Jaguar diffs. If you need one rebuilt, he's the guy.

Default Radius arm bush removal

After reading a lot of stuff about removal of the radius arm bushes, common opinion seems to be that its not worth the trouble and hassle of trying to get them out , just go buy new radius arms with new bushes installed.
But, there's nothing wrong with mine bar a bit of rust, and that they need new bushes of course. Cost of new arms with Metalastick bushes fitted is Euro 132 each including tax. New Metalastic bushes for one arm are Euro 60 including tax.
That makes it worth trying to get them out for me.

To get the big one out I filed out a small channel in the retaining lip on the top of the arm so that I had a clear view of how far I'd cut through the metal with a hack saw and had a bit of meat to drift/hit on when I'd finished cutting.
I first drilled and cut out the rubber with a jigsaw and removed the center. Them cut almost all the way through the metal ring with a hack saw, then drifted out the metal ring. The first arm took me 3/4 hour for large and small bushes. The second was done in 30 mins. Then 10 minutes to clear up the mess!
That's not a bad hourly rate for my hobby time. Definitely worth the hassle and no damage to the arms.

I made up a metal ring to put the arms in a press to push out the old bushings. There is a lip on the arm, so the bushings only come out one way.
