removing all the chrome trim?

Default help! how do I remove all the chrome trim?

hello all...got a 1969 V8 250 and WOW all that chrome trim! how does the chrome trim that sits at the bottom of each window come off?it has rubber in it I think... and all this trim...SO much of it!

any help would be awesome...

It's been a very long time since I delved into one of those.

Looks like you haven't removed the door capping?

If I remember correctly, the window frame has to come out to get at that weatherstrip fixings.

Members with more recent experience will either nod in agreement or tell me I'm going gaga.

It's a British car, what did you expect, you ought to try working an old Rolls or Bentley !

As GGG said, you pretty much have to take the door apart.
The screws are either sheet metal into the door or there is a wood tacking strip that it's screwed into.
Be prepared for them to be rusty so have a good sharp flat blade screw driver that fits them "tight"
Wriggle them back and fourth first or else they may twist off.

Once you're into the door, you can remove the handles to do the job right.

EDIT:
I got curious and took mine apart a bit.
After the door capping comes off, the whisker seal has to be removed ( upholstery tacks)
Then you can get at the sheet metal screws holding lower door capping on.
At this point it looks like the window doesn't quite crank down all the way to get at the screws that holds that chrome on.
There also appears there may be more behind the quarter light.

I would think the whole door has to come apart.
You'll see once you're in there.

It's the typical British form of assembly, you have to take apart a mountain of stuff just to get at something.

Essentially, it is the order of assembly and that chrome seal holder gets put in first. As I recall with my car, I managed to get new ones and the seals to insert into them. Of course this was the mid-eighties so lots of stuff still around.

As far as I can remember, the rear chrome piece with its lip seal inserted, has two lips, one vertical and one horizantal. The horizontal part sits under the rear door quarter light, and is sealed separately, or even with Dum-Dum putty. So to get front or rear seal holder off, the window frame has to come out. The front is similar but I don't think this one has the horizantal lip, just the vertical, but my memory fades. Sorry !!

The chrome seal holders are found on the "External chrome fittings" section on the SNG Barratt website, but are no longer available, there is a modern equivalent, but non-chrome, I think. You'd have to call or email them

It's only a few screws...
It's been apart before a number of times over the years so none of the screws were rusted.
Took about 5 minutes.

I have a 1964 Daimler V8 that does not have the exterior rubber weatherstrips. On my car, the trim is retained by pins welded to the door panel - so use of a slim screwdriver, or trim tool is all that is needed. However, having seen later trims with the inbuilt rubber seal, it appears to have an elongated slot which suggests a slide and prise option!

Got it. I slowly put the spray can down and backed away from the car. I subsequently ordered the vvivid (name brand) vinyl tape from Amazon and it will arrive on Saturday. This is one of may reasons that the Forum is a valuable resource.
