Default Vent control center panel help. S Type

Anyone have experience dismantling the vent controls on the center panel? I'm going to refinish the wood and need to remove all the parts. How do the knobs come off and are the end caps pressed or glued in? I read on another thread that the knobs will unscrew. No luck trying that technique.

Have you looked at the back of that piece where the cables go in ? The fixing may be there that allows the knob with cable to come out from the front, then you can remove the chrome piece. It could just be a clamping piece with a simple wood screw securing it.

Thanks Fraser. I was just now able to get the cables out. There are nuts behind the knobs that need to be unscrewed. I have some very thin wrenches for working on bicycles that can fit behind the knob to undo the nuts. The cable and knobs apparently were sold as one piece since I don't think it's possible to take them apart.

I just need to get the chrome end pieces off and need some advice on that. I think they are just pressed into the wood but would like to get that confirmed by someone who has already taken them off.

in the same piece I have, the chromed end finishers are nailed to the wood. So they must be pried off.
