Default 97 XK8 Vent issue

Looking for some help. My driver side vent's louvers aren't connected together. The left-right works fine but the up-down doesn't. The vertical connection rod has came off of the individual louvers. I assume I have to fix this by removing the vent from the dash to get to the back of the vent and push the connecting armback in to the louvers. Before I started I thought I would ask if anyone else has done this already? Is there any secrets I should know beforeI start removing the wood dash panels? Any help will be great. I have attached a link for some pictures of the vent.
Thanks

You are probably going to have to replace them unless you "rig" them someway. Thay are known for the plastic breaking down. I think they just snap in and out of the panel, but don't rip them out on my suggestion!![sm=icon_blah.gif]

Just to follow up, I was able to fix what I have. I was able to "line-up" all the louvers and with the aid of a home-made hook I was able to snap the vertical bar back into the louvers. Great, didn't have to take it all apart.

I have the same problem with the center vents. Probably was damaged when previous owner tried to clean up the 'green death' mess. Advice from anyone that has removed that center wood and vent would be appreciated. The hook solution might work but I really need to clean up the interior of the vent.

Super, I have the same issue with my 2 center vents. Will give your solution a try.
