Jaguar set to announce formula e entry
Jaguar Land Rover will next week announce plans to join Formula E, according to Sky News.
Jaguar Land Rover will pave the way to enter the electric car market next week when it announces the launch of a team to compete in the Formula E motorsport series.
Sky News understands that Britain’s biggest car manufacturer, which is owned by the Indian group Tata Motors, will unveil its plans at a press conference next Tuesday.
The event is expected to include a commitment from the company to launch an electric car although it will not set a formal timetable for doing so, according to a person close to the company.
The decision by global car-makers to enter the fledgling sport underlines the extent to which Formula E – now in its second season – is positioning itself as a showcase for developments in cleaner technology.
A number of details of Jaguar’s entry were still being finalised on Thursday, including the receipt of formal accreditation from the FIA, world motorsport’s governing body.
Sources said that JLR had decided to join Formula E because of the opportunity it presented to develop new green technologies for its road-car programme.
“It offers live testing for electrification technologies in areas such as batteries and drive-trains; that’s why it looks valuable to them,” said one insider.
JLR’s Formula E presence will be launched in conjunction with the Williams group best-known for its long-standing presence in Formula One, they added.
A spokesman for JLR declined to comment on Thursday.

That's cool but not enough to quench die hard fans of the brand who boast about Le Mans victories .Jaguar should also consider of getting back to LMP Category

I wish they would get back into other forms of motorsport. Formula E is pretty cool though. Ive been hooked on the races since last season, and while the cars are still underpowered, the battling for position is where its at!
