Default 1986 Jaguar XJ-SC V-12

I bought a 1986 XJ-SC a few years ago from the original owner.

He said he imported it and picked it up in NY. It has less than 44,000 miles and is in excellent condition and runs great. My question is that on the rear of the car it says "XJ-SC by British" Does anyone know
what this means? Is this car rare? I live in Maryland and have never seen another one like it. I'm thinking of selling it and getting a newer version XJS convertable. Thanks for all your help.
John

The "By British" part is an add-on by the previous owner or dealer.

Looks like a nice example.

Others will confirm but I think about 5000 were made so it might be called "rare-ish"

Cheers
