Default 1998 XK8 Laguna Woods CA

Joined the forum after purchasing a1998 XK8 with under 19,000 miles in absolute mint condition. A few maintenance items being taken care of by local Jaguar independent garage and a couple of hopefully "minor" fixes. The Jag was driven rarely and all seals, wires, hoses are as new. Previous owner had new tires installed that were shipped from Europe so car has same tires as originally equipped. She kept up all maintenance with the local Jaguar dealer, I have the records! I intend to drive this Jaguar less than 10,000 miles per year and maintain it in perfect condition. Price was extremely reasonable, willing to invest to keep her in excellent condition. Always loved Jaguars, was able to drive a 1959 XK150 back in the late 60's, early 70's. Like so many, the XKE was the absolute favorite of my "dream cars", this XK8 has such beautiful lines, it's a treasure for me. I owned Spitfires and MG's in the past, worked on friends Austin Healys, owned an Austin America... so I am having some wonderful memories return of how awful British cars can be and while the XK8 is a major shift, there are those "little things" that were so aggravating in the past but got me a lot of time with my Dad.. those old frustrations have become dear memories and I am keeping a sense of humor and "reality" about the "little things" on this beautiful Jaguar.

Best advice is to read what you can about the car on the X100 forum.

If you have all the service records, it's extremely important that you confirm the primary and secondary timing chains, guides and tensioners have been replaced with the latest versions. If not, and a secondary chain tensioner fails, catastrophic engine damage is the result.

Thank you NBCat... the tensioners were changed in 2002, this forum made me aware and it's one of the first things I asked about when I saw the car! Thank you for this advice, it's very much appreciated!

Hello, Chuck,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar!
I'm told, by those who should know, that a good sense of humor is not only handy, but Critical when owning a Classic Jaguar. I have personally found this to be true!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Chuck,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.
