1st post, 1st Jaguar, near Sacramento CA
Well, with Spring appearing, and time on my hands, I took the plunge and purchased a 2000 XKR convertible that I couldn't resist! After a fair amount of poking around on the internet, I bought it online and hope to get my hands on it this week. Is there such a thing as British Roulette? It presents well, and I've had it independently inspected, so I'm hoping the risk is at least mitigated. My first car, long ago, was a Lotus Elan, and I've been longing for another English thrill machine.
I've already gleaned a great deal from this forum, and I enjoy reading other people's experiences. Thanks to the administrator and moderators for providing a well managed resource. When I get the XK, an early priority will be fresh fluids and sorting through the tensioner issue. Hope to post some pix and and a brief update once I get some ownership miles under my belt.

Hello and welcome,
After the Lotus, any other British car is going to be a better spin of the roulette wheel.
Starting off in the right direction with fluids and tensioners. See you on the XK8 section.

Welcome to the forum. With a 2000 XK, clearly you will need to check certain things have been fixed or replaced, the main one being the upper timing chain tensioners. You may have to replace the hydraulic oil in the convertible top mechanism, but there was a changeover year, so you may get away with it. Study the posts in the XK forum for your car.
Thanks, All. Your observations are of great value to me, and I'll put them to good use. I'm really looking forward to getting behind the wheel. I have great memories of time in an XK120 (very different vehicle, of course),... maybe I'm euphoric, but, there has always seemed to be something so special and right about the Jaguars to me. Hope to be posting photos and maintenance project results soon. Enjoy the internal combustion and twisty roads...
