Default Hello from the Crystal Coast!

Just had my 1st oil change at 108K miles. Mobile 1 0W-40 with a puralator gold filter. It took 8 quarts like the manual said. Stopped at 6.5 and let it run. Rechecked dipstick after cooling down and needed more. Question I have is the manual said to use Castrol oil but I have always used Mobil 1 synthetic oil in my European made cars. Anyone else use Mobile 1 synthetic oil?

That's all I have used since ours was new. Nothing wrong with castrol, except every shop carries the Mobile one, with a decent selection. The castrol is not quite as easy to find in all the viscosities.

Recommending Castrol is just an agreement that Jag have with Castrol; the Jag agent just up the way in Cheltenham actually uses Shell !

Any 5W30 oil that says it conforms to Ford M2C913-B (or -C, or -D) is fine. Personally I would stick with one of the big names such as Shell, Castrol, or Mobil etc

Thanks Patrick. I didn't know that was the case. Mobile 1 is what I'll continue to use. My E430 Benz uses it too.

That's true cjd. Most of the shops that work on euro cars carry Mobile 1, just at a higher price. My wife can always find it on sale for our vehicles.

I get mine from Costco, although they don't have any kind of selection of viscosities. If I see the right one for any of my cars, i pick it up and store it in the garage until I use it.

Hi Deacon,

I can't recall the year and engine of your car, but for our '04 XJR Jaguar specifies 5W-30 weight oil. Is 0W-40 what Jaguar recommends for your model year and engine?

Cheers,

Don

Hey Don, I have a 2005 VDP with the long wheelbase and 4.2L V8. The Dealer recommended the oil. It's the same oil I put in my 2001 MB E430.

How can I include my vehicle info with my signature like everyone else?

Hi Deacon,

To add your car info to your signature, hover your cursor over your username in the upper right of this page (your username in the lower right corner of the dark blue top banner, not the one near "Welcome,").

In the dropdown menu, click on the first option, "User CP."

In your Control Panel, find Edit Signature in the left column of options and click it.

Scroll down to the "Edit Signature" window and enter your car information the way you would like it to appear, then scroll down to "Save Signature" and click it. All done!

I'm attaching the page from the X350 Owner's Manual where the oil recommendations are given. For most climates, 5W-30 is the weight Jaguar recommends. There are other options for very cold or very hot climates, including 0W-40.

Cheers,

Don
