Default 2001 XK8 Vert Newbee

Hello everyone,
My name is Mike. My wife Tamara saw this Car and we decided to purchase it. I am fairly mechanically inclined. We are familiar with the cats and their snafoos. However with 103k mi. on her & for $8850 we felt it was a decent purchase. It runs and shifts smoothly. I already know that it needs struts & maybe mounts and the hydraulic top needs flushing. What other kinds of caveats & quirks can we expect?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike...Welcome to the forum!

Actually, on a 2001 your top fluid should not need flushing (it should be the dark green fluid already, which does not degrade).

Your absolute top priority should be to remove the cam covers and inspect and replace your (most likely) plastic bodied secondary chain tensioners with the upgraded metal bodies ones. Neglect hear can be fatal to your engine, and with 103K you are definitely in a high risk zone.

See you in the XK8 section!

Thanks to everyone for the welcome and advice. I tried to edit my signature. Thanks to JimC64 for the upgrade. Just a side note on the cam tensioners. I called the Jag dealer and asked about them and he said if the car is running smoothe and quiet NOT to worry about them. I then called a local European car repair shop and they said if it is running that smooth at 103k mi. they have probably been changed. Any thoughts on it? I will move to the tech forum next for other questions. Sorry but wanted to finish the above thought/suggestion.
Thanks again everyone!

99 out of 100 here are going to advise at least getting them checked Mike for peace of mind and to avert a costly mistake.

It seems that is the standard line at most dealers. My guess is that they are told to avoid liablility by not admiitting a problem.

Some original secondary tensioners will make it to 103K, some will not...there is no universal rule. For peace of mind they should be checked. If you have the old ones I can just about guarantee you will find large cracks in them, even if they are still running quietly.
